Looking at the Sony Xperia 1 III in 2021, we were stunned by its innovative camera system, powerful performance and class-leading sound. Now rumors about its successor are accelerating.
So what improvements will the company make when introducing the Sony Xperia 1 IV? Here are the latest news and leaks about the new model.
When Will The Sony Xperia 1 IV Be Released?
Sony hasn’t officially announced the Xperia 1 IV yet, so we don’t have a release date, but we’ve seen a few rumors that the company plans to launch the device in April or May 2022. In the past, Sony has been announcing new phones, but hasn’t released them globally for several months. This is what happened with the Xperia 1 series, as seen below:
- Sony Xperia 1 II – announced in February 2020, released in June 2020
- Sony Xperia 1 III – announced in April 2021, introduced in August 2021
Thus, the April/May rumors may be for an official announcement, or as with previous models, the promotion may be during the summer months.
Expect the phone to be announced alongside the compact Xperia 5 IV and the cheaper Xperia 10 IV when the time comes.
How Much Will The Sony Xperia 1 IV Cost?
Since these are flagship devices, they also come at flagship prices. We don’t yet know how much the Xperia 1 IV will cost, but previous models could be a guide. Here’s how they’re ranked:
- Sony Xperia 1 II – £1,099 / $1,199
- Sony Xperia 1 III – £1,199 / $1,299
So if you want a Sony Xperia IV, there’s a good chance the price tag will be in the four digits.
What Are The Features Of Sony Xperia 1 IV?
Although no official details have been disclosed, the highly reliable OnLeaks has released images of the design based on the leaks it has received. The photos were posted on India’s Giznext tech website and show Sony’s commitment to the aesthetics of the two previous models.
This means that the Xperia 1 IV will probably have a 6.5-inch display with 120Hz refresh rate OLED, 21: 9 CinemaWide, 4K HDR along the Xperia 1 III panel line. Also, Sony is still preparing to go with a thin frame at the top of the panel that allows the front camera to be available without the need for a hole or notch.

Also, since the power button on the right includes the fingerprint sensor, there is no fingerprint sensor installed under the screen. There’s volume control, and the report says the 3.5mm headphone jack will again be on the top edge of the Xperia 1 IV. The bottom of the case has a SIM card slot (which should also support microSD cards) and a USB-C charging port.
We’ve also recently seen another render of the new device from graphic designer Technizo Concept, which has resurrected the Xperia 1 IV so you can see it in all its potential glory.
Another leak from the Chinese truck Zackbucks was posted on Weibo and noted the following internal features:
We haven’t seen any details about the camera system yet, but the Xperia 1 III’s photo and video experience with the revolutionary changing telephoto and dual PD sensor was so good that Sony didn’t have to do much for it. Present premium visuals on Xperia 1 IV.
Technical correspondent @TheGalox_ tweeted that the camera upgrades and the Xperia 1 IV will be “a big improvement over the III”.
As a sign of what you see in the new model, the features of the current Xperia 1 III are:
